In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed May 3 World Press Freedom Day to highlight the importance of ensuring freedom of expression. Every year since, to celebrate World Press Freedom Day in Moldova the Independent Journalism Center has organized and participated in marches, pickets and flash mobs and has published the Press Freedom Memorandum. We do it to raise public awareness about violations of the right to information and freedom of expression and about the economic, political and social pressures the authorities put on media outlets.
