At the end of each year, the Independent Journalism Center awards the outstanding journalists of the year at the Press Club’s Annual Gala. This event has become a perfect tradition for appreciating journalists’ efforts and highlighting their work. The competition is announced in September, and dozens of journalists and newsrooms submit their applications in the categories Online Reporting, Video Reporting, Audio Reporting, Program/Talk Show, Investigations, Photography, Editorial, and Print Press, among others. To keep pace with the newest developments in the media, in recent years we have included new categories like Long Read and Podcast. We also make special awards including Best Journalism Debut, Most Promising Journalist, Best Blog/Vlog, Best Media Campaign, Most Progress and Overall Excellence.
The submissions are initially assessed by experts and subsequently analyzed by the IJC Council of Administration and the Founders’ Assembly. The winners are announced at the Gala in December.
