Starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, high school students (10 and 11 grades) will study the optional Media Education course using the new textbook. Its content was updated by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC) to keep up with recent changes and developments in the field. The authors of the textbook are education experts Dr. Loretta Handrabura and Natalia Gr\u00eeu.<\/p>\r\n

The textbook was revised based on the curriculum for the Media Education course for high school, approved in 2019. It is intended for both teachers and students in 10 and 11 grades.<\/p>\r\n

“The Independent Journalism Center has updated the content of the Media Education textbook for high school to keep pace with the new technologies developed since 2019. The rapid evolution of digital media, the emergence of new platforms and media tools, changes in the informational space, and new journalistic practices have led us to revise the textbook’s content to make it more current and aligned with recent trends,” the IJC mentions in the textbook’s preface.<\/p>\r\n

The updated textbook provides students with new tools to identify and combat misinformation, helps them better understand how information influences them and keeps them informed about the latest trends and risks associated with social media.<\/p>\r\n

The IJC will offer the updated textbooks free of charge to teachers who teach the optional Media Education course. The PDF version of the textbook can be accessed and downloaded here: ROM<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n

To date, the IJC has trained 253 primary school teachers, 208 secondary school teachers, and 277 high school teachers. The Media Education optional course has been taught in Moldovan schools since 2017 and is included in the framework program of the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova at all three educational levels: primary, secondary, and high school. The IJC has developed the curriculum and textbooks for Media Education, which are offered free of charge to teachers and students.<\/p>\r\n

This activity is part of the project\u00a0supported by Sweden\u00a0\u201cMedia Literacy Advancement and Support to Moldovan Media\u201d and implemented by Internews in Moldova, which aims to contribute towards the growth of a diverse, independent and financially viable media landscape in Moldova, and to empower Moldovan youth to navigate their complex information environment.<\/em><\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]
