The rhythm of their publication demonstrates an unprecedented intensification of disinformation activity, which is most probably related to the upcoming parliamentary elections. The fakes were intended to supplement \u201ctraditional\u201d disinformation narratives addressed to Moldovans: the LGBTQ+<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>\u201cthreat,\u201d Russophobia, NATO as a danger, the PAS \u201cdictatorship,\u201d etc.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">On August1-15, we analyzed the content of 61 Telegram channels with the largest audiences in the platform\u2019s Moldovan information space.<\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">28of these channels belong to media sources\/influencers: KP Moldova (35469\u00a0followers), Gagauzia24 (14745\u00a0followers), Gagauznews (13137\u00a0followers), TV6\u00a0Moldova (11325\u00a0followers), and MD24 (10802\u00a0followers).<\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The owners of another 33channels are unknown: \u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u043e\u0432\u0430 \u0441\u0435\u0439\u0447\u0430\u0441 (39367\u00a0followers), \u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u0430\u0432\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439 \u041a\u0440\u043e\u0442 (33035\u00a0followers), \u0413\u0430\u0433\u0430\u0443\u0437\u0441\u043a\u0430\u044f \u0420\u0435\u0441\u043f\u0443\u0431\u043b\u0438\u043a\u0430 (31279\u00a0followers), Insider Moldova (3324\u00a0followers), \u0424\u043b\u0443\u0435\u0440\u0430\u0448 (28494\u00a0followers), and \u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u043e\u0432\u0430 \u043e\u043d\u043b\u0430\u0439\u043d (27578\u00a0followers).<\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Four of the above-mentioned anonymous channels were created on the same day and publish similar fake posts which demonstrate that She is accused of illegally purchasing biomaterials belonging to three Hollywood celebrities in order to have a child.\u201d This fake news was also published by several portals in Russia. In its post, \u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u0430\u0432\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0435 \u0412\u0435\u0434\u043e\u043c\u043e\u0441\u0442\u0438 also published an inactive link as a proof of the \u201cinternational scandal.\u201d On the next day, the publication posted a<a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/vedomostimd\/22137%205%20august%2025\"> refutation article<\/a> borrowed from the InfoPrim Neo Agency, adding a tendentious comment, \u201cMaia Sandu did not purchase any sperm from gay celebrities in the US. But why are such statements made by a civic activist instead of the ISS or the Supreme Security Council of the Presidency?\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"2\">\r\n \t<li><strong>Teachers from Ocnita receive a manual for teaching subjects concerning LGBTQ+ persons<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On August\u00a05, the Fluieras channel published a <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/Fluieras\/3785\">video<\/a><\/u> in which an obviously AI-generated voice comments over the images which show a micro-view of a publication on the rights of transgender persons, saying, \u201cIt has been distributed to all our teachers at the lyceum in Ocnita,\u201d without mentioning an exact name of the lyceum or providing any other details. The publication is a brochure instead of a manual, and so far there is no information demonstrating that it was intended for the audience in the Republic of Moldova. The post has 12055\u00a0views.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the following days, the same video and the same text were published by the following channels: <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/MoldovaPolitics\/26548\">\u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u0430\u0432\u0441\u043a\u0430\u044f \u041f\u043e\u043b\u0438\u0442\u0438\u043a\u0430<\/a><\/u>, with the text saying, \u201cMaia Sandu\u2019s LGBT Laboratory: How schools in the Republic of Moldova start \u2018reprogramming\u2019 children\u201d and 1112\u00a0views; <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/tokanamd\/28327\">\u041c\u0430\u043c\u0430\u043b\u044b\u0433\u0430 \u0438 \u0422\u043e\u043a\u0430\u043d\u0430<\/a><\/u>, which tends to expand the geography of \u201cperversion\u201d to the entire territory of Moldova: \u201cTeachers from the Republic of Moldova tell how, during Maia Sandu\u2019s regime, the LGBT ideology starts being spread in schools\u201d; <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/insider_md\/3423\">Insider Moldova,<\/a><\/u> with the text saying, \u201cLGBT information for teachers: how the government teaches them to make children perverted. A new stage of \u2018European education\u2019 is currently launched at schools in the Republic of Moldova\u201d; <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/moldova_acum\/13253\">\u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u043e\u0432\u0430 \u0421\u0435\u0439\u0447\u0430\u0441<\/a><\/u>, with the text saying, \u201cManuals for changing genders: Moldova enters the stage of cultural annihilation. Authorities no longer hide behind such terms as \u2018education reforms.\u2019\u201d In total, these posts have 41654\u00a0views.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"3\">\r\n \t<li><strong> During the \u201cFire Shield<\/strong><strong>2025\u201d military training exercise, the military force members use images of Russian soldiers as targets<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On August\u00a07, several channels published <u><a href=\"https:\/\/presa.army.md\/ro\/post\/falsuri-despre-exercitiul-%E2%80%9Cscutul-de-foc-2025%E2%80%9D-400\">fake images<\/a><\/u> and a text according to which, during the \u201cFire Shield\u00a02025\u201d military training exercise held on August\u00a04-18\u00a0in the Republic of Moldova with the participation of military staff from the USA, the Republic of Moldova and Romania, images of Russian soldiers were used as shooting targets. <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/moldova_acum\/13321\">\u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u043e\u0432\u0430 \u0421\u0435\u0439\u0447\u0430\u0441<\/a><\/u> asks, \u201cWho does Sandu intend to kill?\u201d Meanwhile, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/Fluieras\/3796\">\u0424\u043b\u0443\u0435\u0440\u0430\u0448<\/a><\/u> announces, \u201cMoldova is shooting at targets with pictures of Russian soldiers on them. The PAS is playing war games. (&#8230;) The things previously discussed behind the scenes have become obvious to everyone: the images of Russian soldiers are used as targets. The shooting exercises have a specific geopolitical message.\u201d Similar posts were published by <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/insider_md\/3433\">Insider Moldova<\/a><\/u>, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/stop_EU\/774\">StopEU Moldova<\/a><\/u>, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/nemdnews\/16275\">\u041d\u0435\u0442\u0438\u043f\u0438\u0447\u043d\u0430\u044f \u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u043e\u0432\u0430 NEWS<\/a><\/u>, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/wtfmoldova\/67976\">WTF Moldova?!<\/a><\/u>, and <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/gagauznewsmd\/81232\">Gagauznews<\/a><\/u>. In total, these posts have 45469\u00a0views.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"4\">\r\n \t<li><strong>The military training exercise in the Republic of Moldova is NATO\u2019s preparation for a violent scenario for the case if the PAS loses the elections<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On August\u00a09, another fake news item about military training exercises started circulating on Telegram channels. Several seconds of video footage apparently demonstrating a soldier speaking in Ukrainian are published as evidence that Ukrainian soldiers are arriving in Moldova to take part in the NATO military training exercise; it is said that the purpose is \u201cpreparing a plan B in case of losing the parliamentary elections.\u201d It is not clear which NATO military training exercise it is, because the \u201cFire Shield\u00a02025\u201d held at that time had nothing to do with NATO or Ukraine, and <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.army.md\/?lng=2&amp;action=show&amp;cat=122&amp;obj=9838\">was attended<\/a><\/u> by American, Romanian, and Moldovan military staff. The post was shared by <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/insider_md\/3451\">Insider Moldova<\/a><\/u>, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/moldova_acum\/13380\">\u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u043e\u0432\u0430 \u0441\u0435\u0439\u0447\u0430\u0441<\/a><\/u>, and <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/gagauznewsmd\/81184\">Gagauznews<\/a><\/u>. Together, these posts have 17600\u00a0views.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"5\">\r\n \t<li><strong>The Moldovan press was instructed not to write about \u201csexual abuse committed by NATO military force members\u201d who arrived in Moldova to join the \u201cFire Shield\u201d exercise<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On August\u00a012, the channels started publishing a photo collage which included a text in English stating that several media outlets in the Republic of Moldova had been instructed not to write about sexual abuse \u201ccommitted by the NATO soldiers who had arrived in Moldova for the Fire Shield exercise.\u201d It is mentioned that European journalists \u201cwrite\u201d about these incidents, but no specific sources are provided. <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/md_news24\/25619\">\u041d\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0441\u0442\u0438 \u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u043e\u0432\u044b<\/a><\/u> published <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/md_news24\/25618\">two<\/a><\/u> posts on this topic. Here is a fragment from one of them: \u201cThe European journalists report that Moldovan media sources have been instructed to avoid publishing any information on this topic. Moreover, information regarding potential abuse victims will not be included in the police reports, and these restrictions will remain in force even after the exercise is over.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The text also mentions that \u201cPresident Maia Sandu, realizing that generating additional negative issues before the elections is undesirable, uses well-known techniques in order to clear the information sphere and to introduce censorship.\u201d This fake news item was also published by <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/podslushano_md\/9133\">\u041f\u043e\u0434\u0441\u043b\u0443\u0448\u0430\u043d\u043e \u0432 \u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u043e\u0432\u0435<\/a><\/u>, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/Fluieras\/3828\">\u0424\u043b\u0443\u0435\u0440\u0430\u0448<\/a><\/u>, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/insider_md\/3469\">Insider Moldova<\/a><\/u>, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/gagauznewsmd\/81744\">Gagauznews<\/a><\/u>, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/newsmdv\/5748\">\u0411\u0435\u0437 \u0446\u0435\u043d\u0437\u0443\u0440\u044b: \u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u043e\u0432\u0430<\/a><\/u>, and <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/MoldovaPolitics\/26612\">\u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u0430\u0432\u0441\u043a\u0430\u044f \u041f\u043e\u043b\u0438\u0442\u0438\u043a\u0430<\/a><\/u>. This turn of events could trigger large-scale protests, as the population will be dissatisfied with the eventual usurpation of power. In this case, special police forces controlled by NATO instructors could intervene, and it may create the risk of a civil war.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This news item is pure fiction, and the Ministry of Defense<a href=\"https:\/\/mediacritica.md\/falsul-despre-800-de-militari-nato-in-moldova-care-ar-urma-sa-soseasca-in-ajunul-alegerilor-ia-amploare\/\"> has confirmed<\/a> this fact; nevertheless, it was published, without the Ministry\u2019s explanations, by at least two other channels: <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/md_krot\/17271\">\u041c\u043e\u043b\u0434\u0430\u0432\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439 \u041a\u0440\u043e\u0442<\/a><\/u> and <u><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/pridnestrovec\/77977\">\u041f\u0440\u0438\u0434\u043d\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0440\u043e\u0432\u0435\u0446<\/a><\/u>. The posts have 30639\u00a0views.<\/p>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>CHANNELS \u201cBORN\u201d ON THE SAME DAY PUBLISH IDENTICAL POSTS<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Four anonymous channels among the monitored ones were created on the same day (March\u00a017,\u00a02025) and publish the same copy-pasted or slightly modified posts. In addition to the fake news items they share, they use events and decisions in the public space as pretexts to present negatively and to denigrate the authorities, the governance, the Western authorities, or the European path of the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During five months of coordinated activity, their audience was growing rapidly and exceeded 20000\u00a0followers per channel, and the posts viewed by the average number of 4000-5000\u00a0users are also shared by other channels due to extensive re-distribution. For instance, 163\u00a0posts on such topic as Transnistria published during one month had almost 790000\u00a0views and were shared 861\u00a0times. Similarly, 312\u00a0posts about Maia Sandu had over 1.6\u00a0million views and were shared almost 1.6\u00a0million times.<\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery lightbox=&#8221;mfp-gallery&#8221; images=&#8221;51537&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>CONCLUSIONS<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Overall, the posts containing obviously fake news, as we have shown above, were seen <strong>249401<\/strong>\u00a0times on August\u00a01-15, according to the Telegram statistics. We cannot say that the same number of people were convinced or deceived by them. In fact, they are not always intended for necessarily convincing everyone. As recent analyses have demonstrated, disinformation uses often fake news items which contradict each other and defy elementary logic, because their goal is to create a \u201csmokescreen\u201d which is as dense as possible in order to prevent an ordinary consumer from seeing the truth. \u201cThe most important question is not whether the documents, images, or files published or leaked are true or accurate, but whether they trigger\/activate the desired effect,\u201d <strong>Thomas Rid<\/strong>, professor at Johns Hopkins University in the US, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=54XZ61xiFJA&amp;ab_channel=DennorskeAtlanterhavskomit%C3%A9\">explains<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this case, the desired effects have been already used for years: cultivating fear of imminent violence caused by some great powers (in some cases, by NATO, and in the other cases, by Russia); discrediting the leaders and cultivating disgust for any aspects associated with their private or professional lives; creating social polarization by means of using false pretexts or threats (such as the LGBTQ+ threat).<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Content multiplication (one of the above-mentioned fake news items was published simultaneously in 10\u00a0posts on 9\u00a0platforms) is a recent technique which has become possible only after the social networks emerged. It provides an illusion of pluralism; therefore, it helps in validating fakes: if the same thing is said by several voices, it seems most probably true.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The above data confirms what we anticipated in our <u><a href=\"https:\/\/mediacritica.md\/plahotniuc-sedinta-css-si-pretinsa-cenzura-pe-retelele-sociale-principalele-naratiuni-de-dezinformare-pe-telegram\/\">previous analysis<\/a><\/u>: while the elections approach, disinformation activity keeps getting more intense and aggressive. css=&#8221;&#8221;] In the first half of August, one fake news item was published on the Telegram channels in the Moldovan information space \u201cspecialized\u201d in anti-EU and anti-government content every two days. The rhythm of their publication demonstrates an unprecedented intensification of disinformation activity, which is most probably related to the upcoming parliamentary elections.
