The teachers will be able to teach the elective course Media Education in 7th or 8th grade starting in the 2026-2027 school year.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><b>Mariana Tabuncic,<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0IJC program manager, highlighted the important role that media education plays in developing a society that thinks critically. \u201cWe at the IJC have been paying close attention to the field of media education for over a decade. Through the training programs we conduct, we aim to help you recognize the value of critical thinking. We encourage you to go to school and guide your students to consume information with discernment, using both the Media Education textbooks and the digital platform for this purpose,\u201d said Mariana Tabuncic.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The course trainers were <strong><b>Loretta Handrabura<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0and <strong><b>Natalia Gr\u00eeu<\/b><\/strong>, the authors of the Media Education curriculum and textbook for 7th and 8th grades.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over the course of the three-day training, the teachers developed their skills in teaching Media Education at the middle school level, based on the curriculum content, the updated version of the textbook, and the Media Education digital platform. The teachers navigated local media and identified problematic and balanced news stories. They discussed how to recognize credible news, how to identify misleading headlines, and what to do to prevent the spread of misinformation. They also verified sources to understand how images can be manipulated or taken out of context.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSelect useful information and protect yourself from harmful information. Avoid people who spread hate speech. Pay attention to the sources you get your information from and always verify the accuracy of messages before sharing them. Think critically, ask questions, and don\u2019t accept information without analyzing it. In the classroom, it is essential not to limit yourself to merely conveying theoretical concepts, but to create contexts in which students can critically analyze information,\u201d said Natalia Gr\u00eeu.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Teachers also discussed the topic of online safety and students\u2019 digital well-being. \u201cThere is a great deal of abuse in the virtual environment. You must be very attentive to students\u2019 behavior resulting from potential instances of online aggression. Do not avoid these topics! Only by discussing them will you help them recognize the early signs of these problems and overcome them. To do this, however, it is important to create a safe space for discussion, where your students feel heard and supported,\u201d noted Loretta Handrabura.<\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery thb_columns=&#8221;small-6 large-2&#8243; lightbox=&#8221;mfp-gallery&#8221; images=&#8221;55643,55646,55649,55652,55655,55658&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The teachers appreciated the relevance of the training program, emphasizing that media literacy is one of the core competencies of the 21st century.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><b>Natalia Boroda, \u201cGrigore Vieru\u201d Gymnasium, Chetrosu village, Anenii Noi district<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Media literacy is relevant not only as an elective subject offered to students but also as a topic for discussion with their parents. One argument is that we live in a world of increasing digitalization; therefore, it is necessary to educate children to be responsible media consumers, to guide them in developing the ability to distinguish between false information spread by trolls or bots and truthful information, and to warn them about the dangers of the online world and how to avoid risks. It is not enough for parents to apply parental controls on their child\u2019s phone. It is far more important for the child to become a conscious consumer of information.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><b>Sorina Iacobe\u021b<\/b><\/strong>, <strong><b>\u201cVasile Alecsandri\u201d Theoretical Lyceum, B\u0103l\u021bi<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the digital age, students need not only access to information but also the ability to understand and critically analyze it. Media literacy helps them recognize misinformation, be responsible online, and become conscious users of technology. Media literacy is not just a subject, but an investment in the future of a more balanced and better-informed society.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><b>Elena Pereu<\/b><\/strong>, <strong><b>\u201cMihai Eminescu\u201d Theoretical Lyceum, Str\u0103\u0219eni<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Media literacy is no longer just an \u201coptional\u201d course, but a necessity. In a world where misinformation, manipulation, deepfakes, and grooming are becoming increasingly common, both children and adults can easily fall into the trap. As teachers, we can no longer avoid these topics. We must talk, explain, and instill critical thinking and responsibility in our students. I leave this experience more aware and more determined to bring these discussions into the classroom.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><b>Tatiana Anghelu\u021ba, \u201cTraian\u201d Theoretical Lyceum, Chi\u0219in\u0103u<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was an interesting and useful training course. We addressed current topics, experiences that will serve as worthy models to follow, and, most importantly, we learned techniques to develop students\u2019 analytical and critical thinking skills regarding messages conveyed by the media, techniques we can apply in the educational process and beyond.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery thb_columns=&#8221;small-6 large-2&#8243; images=&#8221;55661,55664,55667,55670,55673,55676&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To date, the IJC has trained 286 elementary school teachers, 278 middle school teachers, and 361 high school teachers. The elective course Media Education has been taught in schools across the Republic of Moldova since 2017, having been included in the framework curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova for all three levels of education &#8211; elementary, middle, and high school.
