What is social cohesion, why do we need this connective force, and how can each of us contribute to building a more inclusive and cohesive society with equal opportunities for all? These were some of the guiding questions that brought together three teams of journalists and civil society representatives, who implemented projects under the \u201cPartnerships for Social Cohesion\u201d grant program, launched by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC) in October 2025.<\/p>\r\n

Over the course of six months, the selected organizations produced media content in a variety of formats, highlighting diverse issues related to the inclusion of underrepresented and\/or marginalized groups, the lives of women and girls from vulnerable communities in the Republic of Moldova, particularly in rural areas, as well as the experiences of young people with hearing impairments in the northern regions of the country.<\/p>\r\n

The media project F\u0103r\u0103 Filtre<\/em>, one of the program\u2019s beneficiaries, produced a series of documentary-style interviews, suggestively titled DEinspiratELE<\/em>, portraying the experiences of women who have overcome difficult circumstances and managed to rebuild their lives or actively contribute to their communities.<\/p>\r\n

\u201cDEinspiratELE<\/em> reaffirmed how important it is for people\u2019s stories to be told with empathy, responsibility, and respect for their dignity. For many women, such stories can help reduce feelings of isolation and strengthen the belief that change is possible. At the same time, the video materials and articles will contribute to a better understanding of concepts such as inclusion, solidarity, and social resilience,\u201d said Veronica Gherbove\u021bchii, journalist with the F\u0103r\u0103 Filtre<\/em> media project. It is worth noting that,under this initiative, the F\u0103r\u0103 Filtre<\/em> media team collaborated with the Women\u2019s Law Center.<\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery thb_columns=”small-6 large-4″ lightbox=”mfp-gallery” images=”56646,56649,56652″ img_size=”full” css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\r\n

The TV Nord team, in partnership with the AudiViz organization, produced explanatory video materials, thematic programs, and storytelling content focusing on the educational pathways, integration challenges, relationships with family and community, as well as the personal goals and aspirations of young people with hearing impairments. The TV Nord team documented these stories directly on the ground, in localities across the Soroca and S\u00eengerei districts.<\/p>\r\n

\u201cThis project directly contributed to promoting inclusive journalism and strengthening the newsroom\u2019s capacity to accurately and empathetically reflect the realities of people with hearing impairments. The partnerships developed, particularly with the AudiViz organization, were instrumental in gaining an in-depth understanding of the challenges faced by this community. At the same time, the project reinforced TV Nord\u2019s role as a responsible media actor in promoting social cohesion and bringing underreported regional issues to the forefront,\u201d said Viorica Bugulean, Executive Director of the Nord Press Club Association.<\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery thb_columns=”small-6 large-4″ lightbox=”mfp-gallery” images=”56655,56658,56664″ img_size=”full” css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\r\n

The Human Rights Embassy and the Newsmaker portal, other beneficiaries of the program, documented and published in-depth materials that explained key concepts such as social inclusion, non-discrimination, and individual contributions to a more cohesive and equitable society, using clear language and concrete examples accessible to the general public.<\/p>\r\n

\u201cIn addition to producing media content, the project contributed to building a network that brings together journalists, bloggers, and media representatives from various regions of the Republic of Moldova, including Gagauzia and the Transnistrian region. This network will continue to be developed, and its members benefit from mentorship while strengthening their capacity to produce media content focused on human rights and the representation of vulnerable groups, within the framework of a responsible approach to the issues and challenges they face,\u201d said Lela Metreveli, Director of the Human Rights Embassy.<\/p>\r\n

The teams also benefited from the consultancy provided by mentor Viorica Zaharia, a media expert. \u201cAddressing sensitive and sometimes traumatic topics in the media -such as violations of rights, discrimination, and lack of equal opportunities – is challenging not only for early-career journalists but also for experienced professionals, as each case is unique and comes with its own nuances and complexities. To avoid causing harm, continuous guidance and expert support are essential. If journalism is to genuinely contribute to social cohesion, journalists should not be left alone in tackling such topics. They need to be supported and encouraged through various means, particularly through partnerships and collaborations with organizations active in promoting social cohesion and protecting human rights,\u201d Viorica Zaharia concluded.<\/p>\r\n

In total, more than 40 journalistic materials in various formats were produced. All content is available on the media platforms of the grant beneficiaries.<\/p>\r\n

The \u201cPartnerships for Social Cohesion\u201d grant program<\/a> was implemented between October 2025 and May 2026. The three implementing teams were selected from over 40 project proposals. Through this initiative, the IJC aimed to encourage and strengthen dialogue between media institutions and non-governmental organizations active in the field of human rights by fostering sustainable partnerships and supporting the production of high-quality media content.<\/p>\r\n

The grant competition was organized within the project \u201cFostering social cohesion and trust through media literacy and inclusive media content\u201d implemented by the IJC from October 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, with support from Switzerland.<\/em><\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]
