IJC launches 2022 Press Freedom Days with the urge #StopWar
This year, the Press Freedom Days, launched by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC) on May 3, 2022, will be held under the theme #StopWar!, emphasizing the crucial role of objective, fact-based journalism.
Through these events, we will recognize the achievements of journalists who serve the public interest and promote human rights, but also those who reflect on the war in Ukraine on the spot and we will commemorate those colleagues who lost their lives in an attempt to show the horrors of war and its impact on the whole world.
Thus, on May 3, at 11.00 am, the IJC will organize a flash mob in front of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to pay tribute to the journalists who were killed while carrying out their mission to inform the public. The event comes to promote the message of peace #OprițiRăzboiul! #ОстановитеBойну! #StopWar!, but also to emphasize that killing journalists will not hide the horrors of war.
On the same day, the IJC will launch an information campaign in which several journalists from Ukraine will talk about how journalism has changed in the neighbouring country, starting with February 24, 2022, the day the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine.
Also, on May 3, traditionally, we will launch the Memorandum on the Freedom of the Press between May 3, 2021 – May 3, 2022, highlighting the main issues and challenges faced by the Moldovan press during the last 12 months.
On May 4, IJC will announce the winners of the second edition of the Tulip Press Awards for two sections: Photography and Online Press / Print Media. Photojournalists and journalists sent their materials addressing various topics related to the respect for human rights in Moldova, to raise public awareness on this issue.
