For many years, the Independent Journalism Center has been working to empower relevant authorities to facilitate independent media activity pursuant to the principles of a democratic society. To that end, the IJC team has initiated changes and taken part in drafting public policies aimed at strengthening the independent press in the Republic of Moldova.
At the same time, the IJC also conducts research on the media audience and the needs of media outlets in addition to monitoring print and broadcast media.
Monitoring print and broadcast media is general (quantitative and qualitative) during elections as well as at other times and can also be specific to a sphere of interest (respecting children’s rights, gender equality, coverage of topics of public interest, etc.).
Over the years, IJC has partnered with various international media organizations including IREX, with which IJC has implemented the Media Sustainability Index (MSI) for over ten years. The results of this work are available in the Freedom of the Press sub-column along with the annual reports on the situation of the press in the Republic of Moldova compiled by the IJC.
