READ – Responding, Expanding and Acting on Disinformation

- Project duration: January 2024 – December 2025
- Donor: European Union
- Purpose: The READ project aimed to strengthen the capacities of independent media and journalists to provide objective information to the public, combat disinformation through promoting critical thinking and media education, and prevent digital, physical, legal, and other threats to journalists.
- Activities: Training programs for teachers, campaign to promote the Interministerial Plan on Information and Media Literacy, media education workshops for students, legal assistance for media outlets and journalists.
- Results: The IJC implemented a comprehensive advocacy campaign to promote the Interministerial Plan for the integration of media and information literacy actions through the Mediacritica platform. At the same time, IJC expanded its network of media literacy ambassadors by training over 30 teachers from various regions of the Republic of Moldova, who subsequently delivered the optional course “Media Education” in their schools. In addition, more than 400 students strengthened their critical thinking skills through seven media literacy workshops. In the legal field, IJC provided over 100 legal consultations and free court representation in cases aimed at defending journalists and independent media outlets, reaffirming its role as a strategic partner for independent journalism in the Republic of Moldova. Furthermore, IJC trained over 50 young legal professionals on media legislation–related topics.
