Media organizations condemn repeated vandalism of TRM headquarters and call for security measures to protect public audiovisual media provider

Non-governmental media organizations are deeply concerned about the repeated vandalism of the building of the public company Teleradio-Moldova (TRM) and call for a prompt and effective investigation of the case, as well as the prevention of subversive activities against the public television provider.

On the night of July 27, the TRM building was vandalized by several individuals. Unknown persons sprayed red and black paint on the columns and windows of the Radio House, the administrative headquarters of the institution. A similar action took place on September 28, 2024, ahead of the presidential elections and the constitutional referendum.

The signatory organizations strongly condemn any type of action that poses threats and risks to the activity of the public provider of audiovisual media services and signal the inadmissibility of tolerating such violations.

We call on the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Moldova, by virtue of their legal powers, to promptly and effectively investigate the acts committed in order to hold the perpetrators accountable.

We emphasize that, through amendments made in June 2022, Parliament added TRM to the list of public institutions that benefit from state security. In this context, we stress the need to strengthen the security capabilities of TRM—an institution of strategic importance, whose headquarters constitute a critical element of the state’s infrastructure. We call for the implementation of enhanced measures to ensure the security, integrity, and functionality of the TRM Public Company.
