The IJC launches Press Freedom Days 2023

The Independent Journalism Center (IJC) is launching Press Freedom Days on May 3rd, 2023, reiterating the 2022 theme – #StopWar!

On the 3rd of May, at 11:00 am, under the slogan “United for press freedom. Truth cannot be suppressed!”, the IJC will organize a flash mob in front of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, emphasizing the importance of journalists carrying out their work in a safe environment, without being persecuted. The purpose of the event is to highlight the consequences of the war on free and independent press – the killing of journalists in Ukraine, the oppression of the press in Russia, the amplification of propaganda around the world.

Representatives of the media community and civil society organizations, civic activists, students, etc., are expected to attend the flash mob for a moment of solidarity with journalists who report from the sites of war and who do their job honestly regardless of circumstances.

Traditionally, on May 3rd, the IJC will publish the Memorandum on the Freedom of the Press between May 3rd 2022 – May 3rd 2023, which will accentuate the main problems and challenges faced by the press in the Republic of Moldova in the last year.

On May 23, the IJC will announce the winners of the third edition of the Tulip Press Awards in the two categories: Video and Online/Written Press. Journalists have submitted materials that address various issues related to the (dis)respect of human rights in the Republic of Moldova, in order to raise awareness of the topic among people in our country.

The agenda of the events, held by the IJC and other media organizations on the occasion of Press Freedom Days, can be found here. We invite you to join these events to support press freedom in the Republic of Moldova and around the world.
