Boosting Support to Russian-language independent media and media literacy efforts: Phase II

- Donor: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
- Purpose: The IJC in partnership with Internews in Moldova aims to develop critical thinking among Russian-speaking children and adolescents in the northern and southern districts of the Republic of Moldova, including in the Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit by encouraging teachers and professors to offer the optional Media Education course and thus become messengers for quality journalism as well as critical thinking.
- Activities: launch a show in Russian to promote critical thinking among children; thematic meetings with the administrators of Russian-language schools in the northern and southern districts of the Republic of Moldova, including in the Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit.
- Results: The Municipal Puppet Theater “Guguță” staged the Russian language version of the PikPok.online@guguta show. Approximately 1,000 children watched the performance on the theater’s stage, while several thousand others followed the online version of the play. Over 40 representatives from the administrations of schools that teach in Russian in the northern and southern regions of the Republic of Moldova, including the Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit, participated in thematic meetings discussing the importance of the Media Education elective course.
